COLD SPRING -- The ROCORI Spartans football team opened up the 2018 prep football season on Thursday night in front of their home crowd in Cold Spring.
The Spartans ultimately dropped the first game of the year to Detroit Lakes, 40-19.
ROCORI got on the board in the game in the second quarter on a 4-yard touchdown run from Matt Koshiol. Jack Steil ran the ball in on the next play to complete a successful two-point conversion.
After a lightning delay forced a break in the game for a length of time in Cold Spring, play resumed out of halftime with the Spartans adding three more points in the third quarter. Christian Rodriguez made a 27-yard field goal for ROCORI.
In the fourth quarter, Koshiol and Steil were back at it again for the Spartans offense. Steil found Koshiol for a 15-yard touchdown pass to push ROCORI up to 17 points on the night. The Spartans rounded out the scoring in the game with a safety later on in the fourth.
With the loss, ROCORI drops to 0-1 on the season and will travel to take on St. Cloud Apollo next Friday (Sept. 7) in St. Cloud.
