DELANO -- The ROCORI Spartans football team took home a big win on the road during the fourth week of the 2019 prep football season on Friday night.
Behind a big third quarter, ROCORI took down No. 2 ranked Delano 27-7 on Friday in Delano.
The Spartans kicked off the scoring in the game in the second quarter, when quarterback Jack Steil connected with Andrew Anderson on an eight-yard touchdown pass to put ROCORI up 6-0, an advantage it carried into halftime on the road.
In the third quarter, the Spartans broke the game open while tallying 21 points out of halftime.
Steil started the second-half scoring with a six-yard touchdown run, followed up by a six-yard touchdown run from Luke Humbert. Later on in the third quarter, Steil tallied his second rushing touchdown of the game and third overall touchdown of the contest with a 22-yard touchdown run to push ROCORI ahead of Delano 27-0.
Delano was able to get on the board in the fourth quarter, but the Spartans held off the Tigers to come away with the victory.
On the offensive side of the ball, Steil finished the game with 112 yards and one touchdown through the air and ran for another 47 yards and two touchdowns for ROCORI. Humbert added 85 yards rushing and one touchdown on nine carries, while Brady Linn ran for 55 yards on 17 carries. Anderson finished the contest with 73 yards receiving and one touchdown on four receptions.
On defense, the Spartans were dominant against the previously unbeaten Tigers, allowing Delano to record just 44 total yards on 51 plays in the game. Drew Schneider recorded 6.5 tackles, while Humbert added six tackles to lead ROCORI.
With the win, ROCORI improves to 3-1 overall on the year now officially at the midway point in the regular season.
The Spartans will return to Cold Spring in Week 5 for a homecoming game against the Willmar Cardinals at 6 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 27). The game will also be ROCORI's annual "Tackle Cancer Game," where proceeds raised will support Randy Shaver Cancer Research.
