COLD SPRING -- The ROCORI Spartans football team secured its first win of the 2018 season on Friday night in Cold Spring in a big way.
ROCORI's offense went off for 51 points to come away with a 51-16 victory over Princeton on homecoming.
The Spartans got on the board early and often against the Tigers, kicking things off with a Matt Koshiol 11-yard touchdown run followed by a Koshiol two-point conversion to put ROCORI up 8-0. Later on in the quarter, Koshiol was back at it with a two-yard touchdown run to help the Spartans carry a 14-0 lead after the opening quarter.
In the second quarter, Koshiol picked up right where he left off in the first quarter, rushing for a one-yard touchdown run followed up by a 40-yard rushing touchdown. To close out the half, Camdyn Bauer scored on a five-yard run to give the Spartans a commanding 38-0 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Koshiol ran for a five-yard touchdown run to tally his fifth rushing touchdown on the night. Alex Wenner rounded out the 51-point offensive outburst with a six-yard touchdown run to give ROCORI the homecoming win.
Along with its 51 total points, ROCORI's offense tallied a total of 404 yards, including 337 yards on the ground. The Spartans defense held Princeton to just 177 yards, while forcing the Tigers to committing three turnovers in the game.
Leading the way statistically for the Spartans was Koshiol, who ran for 200 yards and five touchdowns on 31 carries. Wenner finished with 65 rushing yards with one touchdown and Bauer added 54 yards and a touchdown in the game.
Jack Steil went 5-for-8 with 57 yards passing behind center for ROCORI. Andrew Anderson also added three catches for 42 yards.
With the win, the Spartans grab their first win of the season and improve to 1-4 overall on the year. ROCORI will look to make it two in a row at 7 p.m. next Friday (Oct.5) when it hosts Big Lake in the final regular season home game in Cold Spring.
