COLD SPRING — The ROCORI Spartans football team finished the 2019 prep football regular season schedule on the right note on Wednesday night.
The Spartans cruised past St. Cloud Apollo on Wednesday night in Cold Spring on Senior Night and in the regular season finale, shuttling out the Eagles 34-0.
With the win, ROCORI extended its winning streak to two in a row while finishing with a perfect 4-0 record at home and an overall regular-season record of 6-2 heading into the playoffs.
In the win on Wednesday, the Spartans got out to a large lead in the first half and never let up on the gas en route to the victory.
ROCORI tallied 28 points in the second quarter — including scoring twice in the final few minutes of the quarter before halftime — to hold a 28-0 advantage after the first two frames.
The Spartans ended up tallying six more points in the third quarter before the conclusion of the contest to come away with the convincing 34-point win.
In the game, ROCORI finished with a total of 345 total yards on offense, including 235 yards on the ground and 110 yards through the air.
Spartans quarterback Jack Steil tallied four total touchdowns in the game to lead the Spartans offensively. Steil went 5-for-7 with 110 passing yards and two touchdowns, adding 20 yards rushing and two more touchdowns on six carries.
Luke Humbert led the ROCORI running attack with 109 rushing yards and one touchdown on a team-high 11 rushing attempts. Along with Humbert, Brady Linn finished with 46 yards rushing on eight carries.
In the passing attack, Andrew Anderson led the Spartans with four catches for 86 yards and one touchdown. Colton Baumgarten added one catch for 24 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, ROCORI held Apollo to a total of 148 yards while forcing it into committing one interception. Isaac Massmann had a team-leading 6.5 tackles, followed by Jayden Philippi and Caleb Schouviller with six tackles each.
Now with the regular season officially in the books, the Spartans will kick off postseason play in the Section 8-4A tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 22 against an opponent to be announced. Seeding for the Section 8-4A tournament is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Oct. 17.
