ST. CLOUD -- The ROCORI Spartans football team dropped their first road game of the 2018 season in the final seconds on Friday night.
ROCORI fell to St. Cloud Apollo 17-14 on Friday at Michie Field in St. Cloud.
For the first half of the game, it was a defensive battle between the Spartans and Eagles, as both teams were held scoreless through the first and second quarters to carry a 0-0 tie into halftime.
In the third quarter, ROCORI broke the silence with 14 points coming out of halftime.
Matt Koshiol got the Spartans on the board with 9:34 left in the third, thanks to a one-yard touchdown run. Jack Steil found Koshiol for a two-point conversion that put ROCORI up 8-0.
A few minutes later, with 5:14 left in the quarter, it was Koshiol again on a 46-yard touchdown run that extended the Spartans' lead to 14-0 that they carried into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Apollo jumped back into the game, adding a pair of touchdowns to tie the game at 14-14. The Eagles later made a game-winning field goal as time expired to take down the Spartans.
With the loss, ROCORI drops to 0-2 on the young 2018 campaign. The Spartans are back in action next Friday (Sept. 14), hosting the Becker Bulldogs at 7 p.m. in Cold Spring.
